How one room in South Melbourne got out of hand.

In November 2023 there wasn't a single dedicated indoor pickleball court in the country. If it rained, you didn't play.

So we took a warehouse on White Street in South Melbourne and put four championship courts in it, in NPL green. Not a court squeezed into the back of something else. A room built for the game.

New to Pickle for people who'd never held a paddle. Open Play from beginner through advanced. Coaching from players competing in the NPL. DUPR Nights, Social Leagues, Ladies Night, Pickle & Prosecco.

The club grew up alongside the National Pickleball League. Thirty thousand players have come through the door since, and we've run more than 750 corporate and social events in the same stretch.

Most of them came back.

In 2026 we opened The Jar HQ out in Maidstone, in Melbourne's inner west. Nine championship indoor courts, a bar, a lounge, and room to keep going.

Same courts, same programs, same membership as South Melbourne. What changes is the postcode.

Six glass-walled padel courts at HQ (opening October 2026), which makes it one of the few places in the country with both sports under one roof. After that, the outdoor area and the grandstand seating.

By 2027 the full club will be in place — indoor pickleball, padel, the outdoor area and the grandstand all done.

South Melbourne already has the pro shop, the bar, the grandstand and the outdoor area.
